Canon Mobile App Re-Design
Project Overview
November 2021 - May 2022
The Product: Re-Designing The Canon Mobile App
The Canon Mobile app is designed for photographers and users looking to connect their devices to convert files from their original format to a different format. The Canon Mobile app strives to deliver a quicker way for users to access photos off their cameras.
Project Goal: Design an app that is accessible for all users and allows them to easily connect their devices and access their photos.
My Roles and Responsibilities: I conducted user research and then created paper and digital wireframes in Figma, along with mockups and mobile app prototyping. I conducted multiple usability studies and made iterations throughout the design process based on user feedback, I made sure to keep accessibility a priority throughout the design process.
User Research
Research Summary: I conducted interviews, created personas, and created a journey map based on the user's journey of the original Canon Connect app. A primary user group that I identified through the user research was working adults who didn't have time to access a computer while on the go.
Pain Point #1: Inconsistency Across Canon platforms responses are unpredictable amongst users
Paint Point #2: Time Busy photographers have quicker access to a phone than a computer
Paint Point #3: Support We found users need help and support areas when using wireless apps
Starting the Design
Paper Wireframes: Taking the time to draft iterations of each screen on paper ensured that the main elements of the design would be featured in the digital wireframes. For the home screen, I prioritized a clear and simple connection process to help users save time.
Digital Wireframes: As the initial designs continued, I made sure to keep digital designs based on research and findings.
Usability Study Round 1 Findings :
Users need cues that indicate their photos have been selected
Users want to be notified of what format they have selected
Users want to be able to complete tasks quickly
Usability Study Round 2 Findings :
Users would like to be notified when their photos have been converted
Users would like to have options for selecting and deselecting images when importing files
Users feel some of the headings look like buttons
Refining the Design
Mockup after Usability Study #1: Early designs gave the user basic options for formatting but after the usability study I notified the users what format they selected, added better navigation, and changed the colors of the buttons.
Mockup after Usability Study #2: The second usability study revealed users want to be able to select and de-select photos in whatever order. To make this happen I made prototype connections for different photo combinations.

Accessibility Considerations:
I provided alt text to icons for users who are visually impaired and use screen readers
I provided a language setting for users from diverse backgrounds
I used icons to help make navigation easier
